Membership site

A membership site, with payments through Stripe.

Member accounts, gated content and subscription payments through your own Stripe account — a site where people pay to get in and see what their plan includes.

Membership platforms take a cut of every payment and decide what your site can look like. Plugins on a general site can do it, but every payment, login and cancellation becomes one more thing to break. Either way, the part members actually pay for — the content — ends up working around the tool.

From $3,000, quoted inside the range by the number of plans, content types and integrations.

Payments run through your own Stripe account, and the site and the member list are yours. Stripe’s processing fees are paid by you, to Stripe, separately from my price.

What gets built

Member accounts

Sign-up, log-in and account pages, with members able to manage their own subscription without emailing you.

Gated content

Pages, posts, video or downloads shown only to members whose plan includes them, with a preview for everyone else.

Subscriptions through Stripe

Monthly, yearly or one-time access through your own Stripe account, with upgrades, downgrades and cancellations handled.

Content you can manage

New members-only content added through a CMS, so publishing does not need a developer.

Questions

What does Stripe charge?

Stripe charges its own processing fees on every payment. They are paid by you, to Stripe, separately from my price, and Stripe publishes them on its own site.

Do I own the member list?

Yes. Members and their payment records live in your Stripe account and your own database, not on a platform you would have to export from if you left.

When should I not buy this?

If you are still testing whether people will pay at all, a hosted membership platform gets you live quickly for a monthly fee — use that first. A custom build earns its cost once the model is proven and the platform’s cut, limits or look are what is holding you back.

Can I offer more than one membership level?

Yes. The plans, what each one unlocks and what it costs are set in the scope, and members can move between them from their account.

What would members pay for?

Tell me what the content is and how you would like to charge for it. I will tell you whether a hosted platform will do or whether it needs building.
